How to save restaurants you saw on Instagram
3 min readUpdated October 1, 2026
Quick answer
Saving the post on Instagram keeps the video, not the place. Open the location tagged on the post (or search the name in Google Maps) and save the place to a Maps list, like “Want to go”. That way it shows on the map when you’re nearby.
Who it’s for: Anyone who saves dozens of restaurants, cafés and bars from Instagram and can’t remember any of them when choosing where to go.

From the post to the map
- 1
Find the name and address
Many posts tag a location right under the poster’s name; tap it. If not, the name is usually in the caption or in a tagged profile.
- 2
Look the place up in Google Maps
Check the city and neighbourhood: many places share a name.
- 3
Save it to a list
Tap Save and pick a list, like “Want to go”. It shows on the map with your other saved places.
- 4
Note why you saved it
Maps lets you add a note to a saved place: “the pastry from the video”, “go on a Sunday”. Three months later, that is what gets you there.
Posts with several places
The “10 best cafés in town” post is the most saved kind and the most forgotten.
- Save only the ones you’d really go to. Ten pins from one post are just noise on the map.
- Use one list per city or trip. In another city, you open the right list and see only what matters there.
- Keep the post’s link in the note. The video shows the place better than any description.
What each way keeps
| Place on a map | What the post said | Directions | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Saving on Instagram | — | in the video | — |
| Google Maps list | ✓ | if you write it down | ✓ |
| Munvi | ✓ | ✓ on the card | ✓ Google Maps, Waze or Apple Maps |

The post becomes a pin
Share the post with Munvi and it finds the place on its own: the restaurant becomes a pin on the folder’s map, with what the post recommended beside it. A “10 cafés” post becomes ten numbered pins. When it’s time to go, “Directions” opens Google Maps, Waze or Apple Maps, and after you’ve been you mark how it was: liked it, favourite, didn’t like it.
Questions
The post doesn’t tag a location. How do I find the place?
Look for the name in the caption, the comments or a tagged profile. The restaurant’s own profile often has the address in its bio.
Can I see my Instagram saves on a map?
No. Instagram saves have no map, which is why it’s worth moving the place to Google Maps or to an app that does it for you.
What about a Google Maps link someone sent me?
Save it straight in Maps. In Munvi, sharing a Maps link also saves the place as a pin.
