How to use YouTube’s Watch Later properly
2 min readUpdated October 1, 2026
Quick answer
On YouTube, tap Save under the video to choose where it goes: Watch Later or one of your playlists. Watch Later works as a queue; to keep things by subject, create playlists (“Recipes”, “Learn Excel”) and empty the queue now and then.
Who it’s for: Anyone with hundreds of videos in Watch Later who never goes back to them.
In this guide
Playlists by subject
- 1
Tap Save under the video
The list of playlists appears, with Watch Later at the top.
- 2
Create a new playlist
Name it after what you’ll do with the video, not just its subject.
- 3
Empty Watch Later every week
What you watched goes; what you want to keep goes to a playlist; the rest can go.
To find the video later
- Note the minute. In long videos what matters is a moment: keep the link with the time (Share → start at).
- Use the description. Links and lists a video promises “in the description” live there; copy what matters.

The video becomes notes
Share a YouTube video with Munvi and it writes down what the video teaches — the points, the recipe, the links in the description — and search finds it by what was said. Tapping a moment opens the video at that minute. Videos up to an hour long.
Questions
Does Watch Later have a limit?
YouTube allows a lot of videos, but a queue of hundreds stops being a queue. Playlists by subject work better.
Can I search inside a playlist?
Not by what the videos say; only by scrolling through titles.
